Prom Season Has Started!

Today I had my first (and hopefully not my last) prom client of the season! This lovely young tenderoni (yup, I just pulled out my bobby brown handbook) was just beautiful! No makeup, amazing skin, just exactly who you'd want to show up at your door. She had just a few requests 1. not too much shimmer. 2 although her dress was lime green, no lime green shadow. and most importantly, 3. she wanted a Kim K.-esque look. I took that as a smokey eye, highlighted and contoured face and a pale lip. DING DING DING!!! I was right! She loved her makeup and so did everyone else... her mom, however, felt that the pink lip was just a little too "grown up" so she ended up having to wipe some off. lol! Well,i was happy to work on such a beauty. a pretty face makes doing makeup just that much more fun! I love what I do! Here are some pics of the prom princess:

Target Clearance On My Lips!

 So, as i've said before, Target's Endcap of Glory has seriously brought joy to my heart! this is a look at my lippie finds in the clearance and also, an example of why i'm such an advocate of finding good makeup, no matter what it costs or what the brand is....

This is a Milani Cosmetics Lip Flash Pencil in Hot Flash. It's creamy and goes on smoth, wears all day, doesn't dry out AND cost me $1.78!

This is my lips lined with Milani Lip Flash Pencil in In A Flash and then Topped with a Sonia Kashuk gloss in Cheerful.. Lip Flash was $1.78 the gloss was $2.79!

This is the Rimmel London lipstick from the Kate collection that cost $1.79! pictures truly do this lippie NO justice!

this is a Wet N Wild lipstick (non clearance) in Bare it All, that costs $1.99! over that is Milani Lip Flash pencil in 01 Lip Flash (clearance find! $1.79) it's a sheer bronze with a bit of shimmer.

This is another Wet N Wild lipstick that goes for $1.99 reg price in Dollhouse Pink over a clearanced Milani Lip Flash Pencil in Photo Flash. LOVE THIS!

So there you have some of my amazing (and amazingly cost effective) lippie finds from Target's End Cap of Glory! I can't express enough how much of a fanatic I am of finding a great deal as well as being all for getting the absolute most for your money when it comes to anything, including cosmetics!                      Stay Dazzling my friends!

My First Wedding!... A Journal-eque Moment

Saturday was my first wedding as an MUA! Rewind....      I've been doing makeup for a little while now, and i've had an amazing time doing it. as a freelance mua, though, it can be tough bringing in new clients. deciding to become a makeup artist, just like any other artistic career, can be challenging in that there are so many ppl doing what u do and moving toward the same goals as u. let me just put this out there, i'm not trying to be rich from this career move, but I am trying to make enough money to where I can call the thing I love, my "living". anyhoo, celebrities and weddings have always been my top dream jobs. celebrities, just because i'd love to see my work on-screen, or a on stage. and weddings because, a woman is supposed to feel her most beautiful on her wedding day, and how amazing must it feel to help give her that?! of course, transforming ppl for various occassions like proms, birthdays, girls night out and date nights is awesome and I love doing it, but I still, I really hoped and prayed for something a little more rewarding.................. fast forward.... ok, so a friend of mine, whom i've known for years, calls/texts/messages me about something important... I give her a call back and she is planning her sister's wedding and wants to know if i'd be up for doing the makeup!!!... for the bride!!!... and 5 bridesmaids!!! HOLY BAJEEZ!!!! i'm way too excited to not take this job! I mean, I'm petrified at having to do so many faces in a time frame that is waaaay under what I normally give myself.                                                                         so we set up a trial appointment and the bride is happy with the look I came up with. and I now have an idea of what I want to do, what I still need for my kit to be complete enough to run through 6 faces quickly and i'm feeling more confident that I got this.... so I buy more brushes, concealers, shadows, lashes, powders, primer, liners, lippies, blushes... i'm keeping it as cheap as I can, but jeez being a prepared mua can cost! hahaha! the day is drawing nearer and my mom offers her face for me to practice getting my time down... she's amazing! so I set my timer for 30min and get to work... booyah! 35min and I stopped once or twice to deal with my son! I. GOT. THIS!                               the big day is coming fast and the night before, i've packed everything I may possibly need... and a bunch of things I know I won't need. lol! when it's time to go, i'm up super early so I can get there on time. I send out huge thank u's to my husband for being everything and more and to my mom for supporting me. i'm all set up.... then... I wait... no one is there! i'm waiting about 40 minutes past the scheduled start time before the first girls show up... so now i'm on an even shorter time crunch! aaaaaaahhhhh!!!! I get to work, I barely stop, i'm getting them done and finally... it's the bride's turn. i'm fully aware that i'm still on a short time leash... but it's her wedding... I took my           time....                                                                            the day ended with me feeling accomplished, nervous about what they all thought (guests and girls), sore, relieved and yet, ready to do it all again! I sent a thank u message to the friend that hired me and wished them an amazing time at the reception and headed home... a day of 2 later, I received a thank u from the bride.. YES! I did it! and then I got to see some of the photos! I'm beside myself! I feel like a professional... like a real professional! This is my beginning!

Target is EVERYTHING!!!

Hey! so... Target is the Method Man to my Mary J.... it's all I need to get by! In the past few months or so, i've discovered, while wandering aimlessly through the cosmetic isles, that Target has a clearance endcap that houses marked down haircare products, face and body care products, nail polish and even a bit of MAKEUP!!! now, I love drugstore makeup, and from time to time, i'll buy some mascara, gloss, lippies, etc. but they HAVE to be cheap. (otherwise i'll buy it from MK and know that the quality is def gonna be there... shameless plug) anyhoo... my first fantastic encounter with this endcap of glory I found this L'oreal Limited Edition Project Runway quad and Colour Riche "le gloss" in "The Mystic's Shine" the quad was $2 and some change and the gloss was something like $1.78!!! WINNING! Thses finds basically started a movement of needing to locate the Endcap of Glory in any Target and raid it for awesome finds!                               From there I found a Rimmel London shadow pallette that was fairly magical, a Rimmel London lipstick from the Kate collection that literally GAVE ME LIFE! (i will be posting about that and other lippies later on) 4 Milani Lip Flash pencils that kill the game and I seriously can't wait to find more! I would post pics of all of these things, but 1, i'm going to devote separate posts to them and 2,.... my blogger on my phone is not letting me place the photos where I want and i'm contemplating murdering ppl just thinking of how i'm going to have to stratigize my next posts.                             Anyhoo, that's my story of how I fell deeper in love with Target and will not stand for ANYONE comparing it to... *gagg* walmart.

I'm back!

So, it's been a littl- a pretty long while since my last post and i've missed giving my 2¢/ helpful tips and hints/ reviws. since my last post, i've started using Creme of Nature Moroccan Argon oil SULFATE FREE shampoo and conditioner and I LOVE it!!! my hair is happy! that stuff can be picked up at your local beauty supply. This is my warm up post and there's about to be a flood of new posts over the next few days... yay to that! right?!... right!

Monday Fun Day?.... Yes Please!

So we all know that Monday was invented to make sure that members of the workforce had something to genuinely hate every week... but just because we absolutely despise this day and everything that comes with it, doesn't mean that we can't Dazzle the shit out of our fellow worker bees. ;-)
And what's my favorite way to add Razzle-Dazzle to the day??? MAKEUP!!! lol!
(just the word brings joy to my life)

Anyhoo... today I actually took pictures AND did a step-by-step of my makeup so i shall share in 3, 2,......

Here are the steps to the look (the ones i took, anayway) and u may notice that there are a few more steps than the average look... don't be afraid.

First off, know that this look was created with the BH Cosmetics Party Girl Palette

1. is the green located on the bottom row, fourth from the right. 2. fuchsia pink located on the second row from the bottom and second color from the left. 3. use the purple located on the second row from the top and fifth from the left on a smudger brush to blend the green and fuchsia. 4. add the black, located on the second row from the bottom and third color from the right, to the outer corner. 5. use the smudger brush to blend the black and fuchsia and then to bring the black into the crease. 6. sweep the gold located on the top row and fourth from the left across the top of the crease and blend with the shadow on the lid....

7. i used Prestige Total Intensity Eyeliner in Daring Green along 3/4 of my lower lash line. 8. i lined the remaining space on my lower lash line with Wet 'n' Wild Coloricon Pencil in Turquoise. 9. u sed a smudger brush lightly dipped in the same gold from step #6 to smudge/ blend the liners. 10. i highlighted my browbone with the color located on the top row, third from the left. and added some white eyeliner on my water line and Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara on my lower lashes. 11. I used <ary Kay Limited Edition Gel Liner on my lids. 12. Lashes on, and i'm done!

BOOM!!!!!!!!

Ok, I know what you're thinking.... well, ok, i don't. I'm assuming that you're thinking that this look is pretty heavy for a monday... but it's not! it's fun and eye-catching and shows everyone that u are ready for the day... even if deep down you're planning to only pretend to do work at your desk for as long as possible. HA!

Brows Anyone?

So.... i get complimented on my brows pretty often.. about as often as i get complimented on my makeup in general. so i FINALLY decided to to a little step-by-step of how i draw these bad mamma jammas. lol! anyhoo.. i've used a lot of different techniques over time but this way is the best way to get some neat and, from someone else's mouth not mine, "crisp" brows...

the first box on the right is just my brow so u can see what they look like bare... they're there, but they aren't anything special... at all.

1. take a brow pencil and start at the top of where u want your arch to peek and bring it down to where u want ur brow to end

2. take that same pencil at the inner corner of the top of your brow and meet up at the peek of your arch... ps: this is where u can get creative and make some crazy high arches happen if u want.

3. make another line at the bottom of your brow and bring it into the bottom of ur arch. if u have no brows or super thin brows, take the pencil down to meet up with the outer corner so you have some good shape going.

4. color it in. ha!

5. take a spiral brush (holding it sideways like so ^^^) and brush the brows so they look a bit softer... i brush to the side, following the direction of my brows

6. and then it looks like that ^^^

7. use a concealer or foundation that's a shade or 2 lighter than your skin to outline the brows (it makes the pop more if you use a lighter color... but if ur not wearing any other makeup... go with your skin color cuz nobody wants to look crazy)

8. blend it out! i use my ring finger to blend from my brow outward

and there you have it folks! it's simple but makes a big difference in the way your face looks! try it and enjoy! ;-)
